Case Study – Redundancy Payment

A frontier worker living in Donegal and working in Fermanagh for 6 years has been made redundant from his job in NI and wanted advice on redundancy pay and benefits.

As he has been employed continuously for more than two years for his employer he can claim statutory redundancy payment in Northern Ireland.  The payment is based on age and length of service.

As he is wholly unemployed, with no contract of employment in place, he can also apply for Irish Jobseekers Benefit. His National Insurance Contributions paid in NI should be transferred to Ireland to help him qualify.
