Covid-19 Certificate / Passport
EU Digital Covid Certificate (DCC)
The EU wide scheme, which has been rolled out in Ireland, will reduce or even remove Covid testing and quarantine requirements for citizens travelling within EU and EEA countries.
The DCC is evidence that the person has been vaccinated, received a negative test, or has recovered from Covid-19 in the last six months. (Vaccine, test or recovery.)
Each EU member state will decide how the scheme will blend with its national public health response. So it is essential that travellers seek information and advice on any local restrictions that may be in place.
The scheme also provides for member states to quickly apply an emergency brake should conditions require travel to be reduced or halted.
Northern Ireland
A separate scheme has been rolled out in Northern Ireland for citizens who have received their vaccinations in NI. Please visit NI Direct for further information on NI COVID Certification
EU Digital COVID Certificate for vaccinations received in NI
Irish passport holders who have been vaccinated in Northern Ireland and hold an NI Covid Certificate can request an EU Digital Covid Certificate. (The QR code from the NI app needs to be uploaded to the Irish app.) Please visit Gov.ie for further details
Cross-border travel
Based on information available on 29 October 2021 a Covid Certificate is not and will not be required for cross-border journeys.
However, if you’ve recently been overseas and travelled via an airport or port across the border a Covid Certificate may be required to avoid any restrictions that are likely to be in place.
